Escape and Clarity in the Westfjords
Traveling within 30 nautical miles of the Arctic Circle to ride your bike into the abyss of fjords is a powerful way to escape the echo chamber. For Hammerhead ambassador Collin Daulong, owner of KC&E Adventures, it was the perfect weekend getaway. On his recent bike trip to the Westfjords, Iceland, his goal was simply to reach his destination for the night. That singular focus provided a sense of clarity (usually) hard to find in everyday life.
“In these moments, you can break free from the narratives that tend to take hold at home—the countless points of inflection that reinforce whatever story you’re telling yourself.”
There’s something powerful about removing yourself from everyday circumstances and entering an environment devoid of the ordinary. The trip to Westfjords was brief—depart Thursday and return Monday. Sightings of coastal birds, arctic foxes, waterfalls, and fjords filled the time between.
Travel and exploration are central to who we are as people, and they are the foundation for Collin’s work with KC&E to help people discover the world. The experiences offer clarity, growth, and a deeper connection to what truly matters.
“I don’t think there’s been one destination or culture we’ve experienced that hasn’t shifted our view of the world in some way and enriched it.”
